Case Study – Identifying the gaps – Safeguarding
A special school were concerned that their insurances were not fulfilling their purpose. Their concerns over policy cover started when they received a letter regarding a safeguarding allegation dating back many years. When reported to their then insurers, there appeared to be no cover in place for one of the later allegations.
Following a review of the insurances by Hayes Parsons Insurance Brokers, it was noted that when the current broker had taken over the school’s insurances, they had failed to appreciate that abuse cover had been placed with different insurers over the preceding years, insuring this key cover in different ways, resulting in a gap in their cover for a multi-year period. This gap was put right to ensure continuous cover for any future allegations that may be brought.
Case Study – Identifying the gaps – medical malpractice
Upon reviewing the activities of a special school, it became clear their current liability cover did not appear to consider the role of third-party therapists, and the school’s links with outsourced agencies when delivering care plans. Should a claim for alleged medical malpractice have been brought, their cover would not have responded as it was too basic in its coverage.
Through our experience we know there are limited insurers who have the capability and the type of policy which would be needed to insure this type of special school correctly to take into account the risks for the outsourced agencies. We were able to ensure that the choices offered would exactly meet the needs of the school.
